God Confidence

….Putting No Confidence in the Flesh- Phil 3:3

April Book Reviews!

So last month (April) I really focused on spending time with God and hearing from Him. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I tend to read books grouped by what I feel is most pressing in my life. In January, I focused on my life as a single Christian. For February and March I focused on obedience and fully following God, and for April I really went back to the basics and focused on my relationship with God.

I think these two books are great for new believers as well as seasoned believers. Sometimes we all need to go back to the basics. No matter how long you’ve been in church, everyone can stand to gain a fresh understanding of hearing from God and developing a personal relationship with him.

If you’ve struggled with those things, I think these are the books for you!

How do you Represent Christ on Social Network Sites?

I watched the video below on YouTube the other day, and I just could not agree more with this man’s message. People will surely show themselves on their Facebook account and other social network sites. What does yours honestly say about you? Does it exude a person who loves God or a person who loves the things of this world?

We see this all of the time: One status will be about God, and then there will be a picture of them drunk, slumped over a toilet. Who are you, really? If you call yourself a Christian, it is important to remember you are supposed to be an example for Christ. Check out the 6 minute video for more!

Even children are known by the way they act, whether their conduct is pure, and whether it is right.- Proverbs 20:11

Worship: Hillsong “Still”

One of my current favorite worship songs! Enjoy!

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

Psalm 46:10

So You’re About to Graduate….

Three Things You Should Realize

Graduation season is here and most senior college students will be walking across the stage to symbolize the completion of their degree next month in May. This means it has been almost a year since I’ve graduated, and what a year it has been! This year has gone by super fast!

I’ve learned so much, and God has revealed himself to me in new ways. I thought I would share a few honest things to those graduating college.

So Far I’ve read 5 books. Here are the reviews of my February March Books. At the end I will reveal the books I will be reading and reviewing for April/May.

Being in the Best Position to Hear from God

I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guardpost. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how he will answer my complaint. (Habakkuk 2:1 NLT)

Desperate for an answer from God, Habakkuk climbed up high to a watchtower so that he could be in the position to hear from God.

Are you in the right position to hear from God? Have you positioned yourself in such a way that nothing can interfere with your receptiveness to His voice?

I LOVE MARRIAGE!!

Via Pinterest

Because of my frequent rants on singlehood, contentment in single season, and my determination to be single God’s way, some may say I don’t like marriage or have no desire to get married.

That isn’t true at all. Recent political events that have sparked the debate on the definition of marriage has made me think about my views on marriage as a single woman. I want to say plainly- I LOVE MARRIAGE. I love everything about it, and I love the (very few) Godly couples I know. They are truly a physical representation of Christ and His church and gleaming from their wisdom helps me to love God even more. Marriage is most definitely a desire for me.

This isn’t what this blog is about, and I’ll get to that in another blog post. As I stated, recent political events continue to spark the debate on marriage and what exactly it means. While I can write the cliche’ Christian girl post on why I don’t agree with same sex marriage, I am going to go a slightly different route

Dear Single Ladies

Ladies ladies ladies, my beautiful single sisters in Christ, there is going to have to be a point where you die to yourself, that means dying to all your desires including marriage. I don’t care how old you are. The bible says we are to focus on things eternal and I have news for you: nobody will be married in heaven therefore the only marriage that is eternal is the one between you and Jesus. That has to be your focus. It has to be “for God, I live, for God I die.”

Some of us have a relationship with God that is not real. Why? Because it all depends on one thing: whether or not you get a husband. That is not real relationship. Stop being so one track minded. I want to hear more singles thirsting for the things of God. There are abused foster children, battered women, poor people, sex slaves, prostitutes, prisoners, etc that need to hear about The Lord. This walk is not about you, and don’t confuse Jesus with Cupid. This is not about getting your wish list. What is God requiring of you? Stop using all your energy wishing and hoping for a husband.

For some of you, that’s all you think about. I can tell by your Facebook statuses. I wish my sisters would spend more time in their Word and less on the “marriage works” facebook page. You’re single, why are you on the strivingforoneness Instagram page commenting on all of the pictures? And you wonder why it’s hard to be content single?

But here is reality: you are not truly surrendering to God if your mindset is this- “if I surrender this desire to Christ he will give me a husband. If I live pure God will give me a husband” no, we don’t bargain with God. You can’t find true contentment in Christ because you’re selfish. You’re trying to figure out what you can get out of your relationship with God. God is asking you to lay down everything and serve Him because He is GOD. There is something God wants you to to do NOW! Find out what it is and do it.

Scripture references:
So tell us, whose wife will she be in the resurrection? For all seven were married to her.” Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God. For when the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage. In this respect they will be like the angels in heaven. (Matthew 22:28-30 NLT)

Since we consider and look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen; for the things that are visible are temporal (brief and fleeting), but the things that are invisible are deathless and everlasting. (2 Corinthians 4:18 AMP)

And those who belong to Christ Jesus (the Messiah) have crucified the flesh (the godless human nature) with its passions and appetites and desires. (Galatians 5:24 AMP)

And He said to all, If any person wills to come after Me, let him deny himself [disown himself, forget, lose sight of himself and his own interests, refuse and give up himself] and take up his cross daily and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also]. (Luke 9:23 AMP)

And he who does not take up his cross and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conforming wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also] is not worthy of Me. (Matthew 10:38 AMP)

Rejecting the World’s Idea of Beauty

I was scrolling down my Instagram feed one day and I “liked” a picture of a girl wearing a very short dress, with her cleavage out. My initial carnal thought: “Oh, she looks cute.” Then it hit me: why in the world do I find a short, tight, revealing dress cute on anybody?

Furthermore, why do I encourage my sisters in Christ who post their bikini pictures online, their workout pictures in their sports bra knowing what the bible says about a woman and modesty?  Read more…

5 Post Valentine’s Day Thoughts From a Single Woman

I decided against writing the typical Valentine’s post, but now that Valentine’s Day is well over, I still have some thoughts particularly when it comes to my single sisters in Christ. After I made a few observations and reflections on this day, I believe single Christian like myself need to be careful and choose not to yield to the subtle advances of this world to conform to its standard of love.
